Our exploration of the Bard's classic tragedy, Romeo and Juliet continues. We will participate in some close reads of Queen Mab, the infamous balcony scene and more.  Make sure that you are using the resources in our electronic text www.myshakespeare.com to assist you. Please remember that tutoring is still available on Tuesdays and Thursdays 3:45 - 5:00 pm in room 1002.

This week we are starting our Shakespeare unit: Coming of Age on Stage. This Saturday, March 23, from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon in the Upstairs Betty Gray teachers will host a 9th Grade Tutoring Session.  Your scholar is invited to attend.  Please use the link to sign up https://bit.ly/2JpyBaE  for Saturday.  Students will get an opportunity for extra and recovery credit and will prepare for the End of Course exam which counts 20% of your scholars overall grade.

Tutoring is available on Tuesday and Thursday starting at 3:45 -5:00 in room 1002.

This week we will finish our study of Unit 2: Defining Style. We will study a combination of narrative and informative texts. We will complete a a character study in our "The Stolen Party" Wed review. Please note that students are welcome to attend tutoring Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:45-5:00 in room 1002.   Students are encouraged to monitor their grades through Synergy.   
Our next Super Saturday will be March 23, 2019 9:00-12:00 noon.

Students thank you for your help and support with the substitute last week.  EACH of you received an agenda for the week to help guide your self-directed instruction and exploration for the week:

Monday
In class essay, answer the following prompt: Is a four-year college degree valuable? Use the articles from SpringBoard and our America’s Blueprint article discussed on Friday Mar 1st.
Due BEFORE you leave class on Monday Mar 4th. No exceptions.  You may listen and learn. We are operating under Starbucks Mode. 

Tuesday
Reimagine and rewrite the ending to Roald Dahl’s Lamb to the Slaughter. Let your imagination fly and develop your own Author’s style with this assignment. You can change the narrative perspective, add additional characters and even change the plot.
You will create the written draft on Tuesday.  You may Listen and Learn. Your draft will be submitted to the basket AFTER you have typed and submitted your final work on Schoology on Wednesday.  Complete your draft on TUESDAY March 5th.

Wednesday
  1. Type your rough draft of your alternate ending to Lamb to the Slaughter.
  2. Revise and edit your work.
  3. Submit your final draft through Schoology.
  4. Write your own Editorial Brainstorming
  • Final Draft due before the end of your block on Wednesday March 6th.
  • Editorial Brainstorming sheet due by 11:59 PM EST Wednesday March 6th.

Thursday
Editorial Research – using your chosen topic, and the Opposing Viewpoints database at www.cobbmackinvia.com you will find at least three sources to support your editorial claim.
Thursday March 7th 11:59 PM EST. in Schoology

Friday
Editorial Draft – you will write your editorial draft with textual evidence (with MLA citations).
Friday March 8th 11:59 PM EST.  in Schoology

***On days you complete assignments early you can engage in one of the following activities: reading your independent novel, completing journals for your independent reading, and/or working on your Build a Room project.
